GT Bank Liberia Manager Freed on Bail


Monrovia, Liberia- Lawyers representing the Managing Director of the Guaranty Trust Bank Liberia, has secured his released from prison after a “criminal assurance bond” was guaranteed by the Insurance Company of Africa.

The legal team of Mr. Ayodeji Bedeji who spent 48hrs in jail, filed a petition for the Writ of Habeas Corpus against the Liberia National Police on Friday, forcing the the law enforcement agency to produce the “living body” of the accused to the court. Although Mr. Bedije was rearrested and charged with aggravated assault by the Monrovia Magisterial Court, he was however later released to his lawyers after his bond was filed.

In the meantime, a Write of Ne Exeat Republica has been obtained by the Ministry of Justice and officials of the Ministry have instructed all border posts not to allow Mr. Bedije to leave the country.

As it can be recalled, Mr. Ayodeji Bejide threw a calculator at Mr. Edward Freeman, a senior staffer at the same bank he manages, thereby inflicting serious wounds on the lips of the victim. After the incidents police invited Mr. Bedije for questioning when video of the incident posted by our sister institution Gbana TV went viral on Social Media.  He was escorted by his legal counsels around 11:00am and was placed under custody for formal criminal investigation.

Mr. Bedeji is expected in court soon for continuance of the trial. We will bring you developments of the case as they unfold.
