Monrovia, Liberia- Information just reaching the Liberian Billboard says, the impeachment of Supreme Court Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh has gotten enough support from Senators in the Upper House of the Liberian Legislature.
A source with direct knowledge of the process says, Senators have been having in-house discussions on the issue and more than two-third of the number needed to pass the impeachment bill have committed to voting in favor of the bill.
With the appointment of former Sinoe County Senator Joseph Nagbe as Associate Justice, the Senate now has 29 Senators and the impeachment bill only need 19 Senators to vote in favor for passage. The impeachment process in the Senate will include a hearing into allegations in the impeachment bill and will be presided over by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Although the source refused to name Senators in favor of Ja’neh’s impeachment, The Liberian Billboard was informed that more than 19 Senators have pledged to vote in favor of the bill and the support cuts across partisan lines.
The Senate version of the impeachment process is expected to kickoff soon, with the House of Representatives voting last week to impeach Justice Ja’neh.
We will update this story as more developments come in.
