The Head Coach of the Liberian National Team, James Salinsa Debbah has been fired.
According to reports, Debbah firing is the result of the termination of contracts of all team coaches due to limited funds, a reason cited by Liberian football authorities. In the meantime, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Liberia Football Association have appointed Thomas Kojo as interim coach of the Lonestar.
James Debbah firing comes just before a scheduled friendly match between Sierra Leone and Liberia on July 22, 2018 as part of the Liberia 2018 Independence Day celebration. Thomas Kojo will guide the team for that game and is expected to also coach the team through her remaining African Nations Cup qualifying games. Liberia plays the Democratic Republic of Congo in September, followed by two home and away games against Congo Brazzaville in October. No confirmation has been given on the appointment of Kojo as being permanent.
