The services of the Senior Communications Strategist at the Liberia Maritime Authority has been abruptly terminated. News of Mr. Mulbah K. Yorgbor, Jr. termination was first shared via Social Media by colleagues and caught many persons by surprise.
Speaking to Liberia’s popular Social, Political, News, Entertainment and Social Media icon Strong Gbana Pekin on the Strong Gbana Facebook Live Show, Mr. Yorgbor said that he received news of his termination while on official duty in the United Kingdom. Said Mr. Yorgbor, “The reason cited by my office in the Letter of Termination I received was for cost saving and restructuring. They actually said my position was been made redundant”. Mr. Yorgbor further stated that he can’t consider his termination as dismissal because the process is being done in accordance with the Labor Laws of Liberia. He said that he will receive his full benefits for the period served and have from now to August 1, 2018 to clear his desk of all unfinished business. When asked about his next move, Mr. Yorgbor said that he will spend more time on his already prospering coal business and has in fact just launched a marketing and communications consultancy firm. Meanwhile, and despite his abrupt termination from Maritime, Mr. Yorgbor told The Strong Gbana Show that he will be available at anytime to serve his country when called upon. He also used the time to call on Liberian youths to be focused and exercise their true potential. Mr. Yorgbor said, most young Liberians fail to stand for something and as such, is creating crippling segments in intellectualism in our country.
While Mr. Yorgbor has cautioned against any politicizing of his abrupt termination, members of the opposition, especially the Unity Party has termed the firing of Yorgbor as a witch hunt; with several members and stalwarts of the party taking to social media to criticize the decision. While some said it is a deliberate attempt by the ruling party to get rid of the opposition from government, others say it has ingredients of dictatorship. However, Mr. Mulbah Yorgbor confirmed on the Strong Gbana Pekin Show that although he supported Former Vice President Boakai during the 2017 elections, he said that he was never a member of the Unity Party. Mr. Yorgbor told the host that the only party he ever took a membership for is the Congress for Democratic Change now turned Coalition for Democratic Change dating way back to 2005.
In a swift reaction to Mr. Yorgbor interview on the Stong Gbana Pekin Show, Deputy Minister of Information Mr. Boakai Fofana debunked news about the President having something to do with Yorgbor’s termination. Mr. Fofana said that the decision was solely that of Maritime Authorities and that the President had no part to play in their decision as being speculated. Efforts to reach authorities at the LMA proved futile, but our correspondents are still making efforts to speak with the requisite authority at the agency.
The Liberian Billboard wishes Mr. Yorgbor well in his next life’s journey
