Monrovia, Liberia: Chief Justice Francis Korkpor has denied a trial dismissal request by defense lawyers in the Justice Ja’neh impeachment trial.
The lead lawyer of Ja’neh’s defense team, Cllr. Arthur Johnson asked for the dismissal on grounds that the allegations levied against his clients was not impeacheable offenses, as contained in the Liberian constitution.
However, Cllr. Syrenius Cephas representing the House of Representatives asked that Chief Justice Korkpor should not give credence to the request for dismissal, stating that Justice Ja’neh used his office of high influence to violate the constitution of Liberia, and as such, must be impeached.
After the legal arguments on both sides, Chief Justice Korkpor who is presiding over the trial denied the request of Cllr. Arthur Johnson for a trial dismissal. Chief Justice Korkpor said, he could not dismiss the trial because the matter is above him.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Korkpor granted a request by Cllr. Cephas for Associate Justice Ja’neh to take the witness stand for cross examination if he chooses to do so.
The trial continues on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 10:00am.
