Monrovia, Liberia- Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, has rejected all financial assistance from the Government of Liberia toward her husband, the late Rep. Adolph Lawrence funeral arrangements.
It is a tradition that government funded state funerals are held for lawmakers and top government officials who die while in office, however, Senator Karnga-Lawrence in a communication dated March 28, 2019, informed the Speaker of the House, Hon. Bhofal Chambers that the estate and family of her late husband will underwrite the cost of his burial.
“In as much as every member of the National Legislature is entitled to a government-funded State funeral, I am fully aware of the financial constraints, with which the Government is currently confronted. We have, therefore, decided to forfeit such privilege, as is due my late husband. The requisite funding to underwrite the cost associated with the funeral rites of my late husband have already been raised from his Estate, our families, friends and supporters,” Senator Lawrence wrote.
Madam Karnga-Lawrence cited her husband’s love for Liberia, and informed the Speaker that the family of the late Montserrado District 15 lawmaker will work with authorities of the lower House in execution of other aspects of her husband’s burial.
Hon. Adolph Lawrence who represented Montserrado District 15 in the House of Representatives, died in a motor accident early Monday on the Buchanan-Monrovia highway while driving to Monrovia after his 53rd birthday celebration at his wife’s home in Buchanan.
