Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberian Billboard has been informed by multiple sources, that Minister of State, Nathaniel McGill, is currently seeking the intervention of Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor in the ongoing political and economic crisis in the country.
According to reports, on Friday, McGill led a team of high ranking government officials which include Justice Minister Musa Dean; Advisor to the President, Archiebald Bernard; and Police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue to meet the Vice President at her office.
Sources say, the the purpose of the emergency meeting was to seek the Vice President’s intervention in the current economic and political crisis emanating from the just released double missing banknotes and economic stimulus reports by the United States government on one hand, and the Government of Liberia on another hand.
Additional reports say, early Saturday, Minister McGill led a team from the Inter-Religious and Traditional Councils on the Vice President’s Farm in Bong County for more discussions.
“The Vice President holds a special relationship with Madam Sirleaf, and officials are afraid that the she will fight back with the arrest of her son, therefore, they are seeking the VP’s intervention on the issue,” a source told The Liberian Billboard.
Another source with knowledge of the issue who spoke to us on condition of anonymity said, President Weah is caught in a tight spot as his relationship with the former Liberian President has hit a crack.
Said the source: “President Weah denied having any knowledge of Charles Sirleaf’s arrest when asked by President Sirleaf. He laid the blame squarely on McGill because he said he was in Israel at the time. However, it seem like it was the plan as it is impossible for McGill to act on his own
“Now, the Vice President is having some reservations in intervening since she has been previously disrespected by the very McGill and other top CDCians. That’s the mean reason he carried a delegation from the Inter Religious Council at her farm today because the woman doesn’t even want to be bothered with him since that Superintendent Esther Walker leaked tape.”
How Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor will react is yet to be seen. It is no secret that there has been a major rift between Vice President Howard-Taylor and her boss President George Weah, primarily influenced by the President’s triangular confidants of Minister of State, Nathaniel McGill; Finance Minister, Samuel Tweah; and Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee.
This is an ongoing development. The Liberian Billboard will bring you more details as information comes in.
