Monrovia- After much hauling and pulling since the Executive Mansion made the announcement, the National Forum between the Government and opposition political comment is currently ongoing at the Bella Casa Hotel in Monrovia.
According to our correspondent at the event, leaders and representatives from various opposition political parties including the Unity Party, Liberty Party, ANC, All Liberia Party, etc, could be seen entering the hall as well as engaged in chitchats. At one point, the Chairman of the ruling Coalition for Democratic, Mulbah Morlu was seen hugging the Mo Ali, Assistant Secretary General for Press and Public Affairs of the Unity Party, with both men laughing and having a short conversation.
It can be recalled, the President George Weah on Manday, August 13, 2018, proposed the one day dialogue with opposition political parties after he received a report from the National Independence Day Committee at the Foreign Affairs.“For me, I see it very good for us as Liberians, especially opposition political parties to come together in one-day forum to share ideas and discuss the future of Liberia; that the meeting will allow opposition leaders to freely speak their minds about the government and make suggestions. You see, that is why I want this meeting to be held at a venue where opposition political parties and the government will interact freely,” the President indicated. Although there were some controversial statements from some major opposition political parties about the President’s invitation, however, all major political parties are represented at the event.
The Liberian Billboard will bring you developments from the forum as they unfold.
